CASA New Orleans 5th Annual “What’s Cookin With CASA”
CASA New Orleans will host its 5th Annual “What’s Cookin With CASA” on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Riverview Room in Jax Brewery. The event will include a silent auction, cooking demonstration by Susan Spicer, highly celebrated chef with Bayona and music by Gina Brown and her band, Anuthu Level. AmeriCorps*VISTA Position Available
Outreach and Awareness Coordinator Needed ASAP!
Summary of Position
The position of AmeriCorps*VISTA Outreach & Awareness Coordinator (OAC) will design, develop, and implement grassroots strategies for increasing the awareness and sustainability of CASA in the local community. With guidance and support from the local CASA Staff, the OAC will engage in capacity building strategies that focus on public awareness and outreach (short term) as well as fund development and sustainability (long term). Serving as an AC*VISTA member, the OAC will be a part of a team of 15 members in the Louisiana CASA Association network serving throughout the state.
Qualifications & Skills
The individual should have a college degree or a minimum of three years of experience. The OAC should possess the ability to work independently on assigned duties as part of a larger team. With guidance and support, the OAC should be able to carry tasks from initial stages to completion with measurable results, seeking assistance when needed from team members and/or Supervisor. Background or experience in working with volunteer-driven, grassroots, and/or programs serving abused and neglected children is desired as well as working in public relations and/or marketing. The individual should have a desire to be a part of the rebuilding of Louisiana through service to its most vulnerable population –child victims of abuse and neglect.
The following skill set is desired, but not necessary, to serve:
* Experience and/or knowledge of community awareness and outreach
* Enthusiasm and skill for public speaking, engaging potential partners, and promoting CASA with established and cold contacts in the community
* Experience and/or knowledge of working with grassroots, advocacy programs
* Knowledge of, or commitment to, issues involving child abuse and/or neglect
* Desktop publishing/Strong Computer and Technology Skills
* Strong Oral, Written Communications (Press Releases, Grant Proposals, etc)
* Knowledge and/or experience working in both urban and rural settings
* Experience working with diverse populations and cultures
