CASA Advocate Training Supervisor, Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides a highly specialized volunteer service to abused and neglected children who are in the juvenile court system. CASA is a national organization with over 1000 local programs across the country. CASA advocate volunteers are recruited, trained, and supervised by program staff members. CASA advocates are considered to be the “eyes and ears” of the court in child abuse proceedings.
Under general supervision the purpose of the Advocate Training Supervisor position is to assist in the recruitment, selection, training, assignment and evaluation of CASA volunteers and supervising their work with assigned youth. Although this position will focus on the implementation of the National CASA pre-service curriculum and coordination of in-service training sessions, this position will also be responsible for the supervision of a modified caseload of volunteer advocates and related activities. (Employees in this classification perform professional work.)
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a social services or related field. Experience with the CASA organization, case management, or social services is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education. Experience in the following areas will be given preference: training, volunteer supervision and management, child abuse, and foster care.
Skills necessary for success in this position include interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, written and oral communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, leadership, and computer/technology. Awareness of community resources available to foster children and knowledge about current foster care, child abuse, and child advocacy issues is also needed. An Advocate Training Supervisor of CASA Jefferson should be highly energetic, enjoy public speaking and presentations, hard working, self-motivated, flexible, goal oriented, creative, and resourceful. Most importantly, they should have a sense of mission to children’s issues.
The Advocate Training Supervisor is under the supervision of the CASA Program Coordinator and is responsible for achieving quality advocacy through advocate volunteer screening, training, supervision, retention, and program activities.
This position is a grant-funded position and is limited in term to the term of the grant (July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011) which may or may not be renewed. Position is a minimum of 35 hours per week. Position requires some evening and weekend scheduling of work assignments.
