Advocacy with Heart: Supporting the Whole Child and Family

Louisiana CASA is excited to offer a webinar series specifically for CASA staff and volunteers to enhance advocacy for children across the state. This series focuses on trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and family-centered advocacy that supports healing, growth, and long-term success for children of all ages.


This webinar is open to active CASA staff and volunteers only.




Dr. Ashleigh R. Borgmeyer

As a lifelong Louisianian, Ashleigh R. Borgmeyer, PhD, LCSW-BACS grew up loving LSU and is honored to teach and mentor the social work students of this great institution. Ashleigh is the coordinator of LSU School of Social Work’s community outreach program, Tiger Tales, and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice. She teaches the three-course practice sequence in the BSW Program, bachelor-level electives (Child & Community; Social Work & Older Adults; Crisis Intervention), and aging content in the MSW Program.  


Ashleigh’s practice and research interests intersect around cumulative trauma over the life course, the provision of trauma-informed crisis intervention, intensive case management, and supportive counseling services to survivors of violence in both hospital and community-based settings. She also engages in research surrounding pedagogical strategies in social work education to support better learning experiences for students. Ashleigh's goal is to be a positive part of each student's educational journey, supporting them in their current and long-term career aspirations.




Dr. Johanna Bailey

Jahanna Bailey, DSW, LCSW-BACS, is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice in the School of Social Work. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she earned a Doctorate in Social Work from Tulane University. She teaches the practice sequence in the BSW Program and bachelor-level electives, including Behavioral Health Assessment and Youth Adversity and Resilience. For over 20 years, Dr. Bailey has served our community, specifically advocating for children, youth, and families within the school behavioral health care systems. In our ever-changing world, every interaction is a chance to make an impact, and Dr. Bailey believes that the field of social work is an instrumental avenue for facilitating and empowering individuals to become active agents in social change. Her practice and research interests intersect with school-based mental health and the provision of trauma-informed crisis intervention. She also researches pedagogical strategies in social work education to support better student learning experiences.


Throughout her social work career, she has been dedicated to serving and advocating for the welfare of children, youth, and their families. Dr. Bailey is a Trust-based Relational Intervention (TBRI)® Practitioner, proficient in the intervention designed through an attachment and trauma-informed lens to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. Additionally, through her participation in the Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL) Service-Learning Faculty Scholar’s Program, Dr. Bailey has become very passionate about the opportunity to promote student-centered learning and engagement. Her goal is to utilize service-learning projects that will create ACCESS, by Advancing Connections and Collaborative Educational Support Systems between the community our students serve and their classroom educational experiences. Dr. Bailey’s goal is to provide practical learning experiences for students that will assist them in becoming active agents of change.




Paula Davis

Paula C. Davis currently serves the School of Social Work as a Field Education Liaison at Louisiana State University. Paula has 30 years of experience in the social work profession and has been an adjunct instructor with the LSU School of Social Work for more than 20 years. She is a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor and has experience supervising social work staff and interns at a local non-profit. Paula is a certified Adoption Competent Professional and works with all members of the adoption triad providing counseling, education and training for families touched by adoption. Paula is a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner and a member of the Louisiana Children’s Code.
