About the event

In this webinar National CASA will explore the connection between the potential to reduce child welfare system involvement through the implementation of poverty-reduction strategies based on existing social policy packages (e.g. Earned Income Tax Credit, SNAP, federal minimum wage). In 2019 the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) released a “roadmap” to reduce child poverty by as much as half through the implementation of a series of social policy packages.

Subsequent to this release, a team of researchers undertook a study to simulate the reductions in Child Protective Services (CPS) involvement and foster care placements that are likely to result from implementation of three of the NAS policy packages when adjusting for household income. It is the methodology and results of this recent study we will be discussing.
