CAPITOL DAY

United for Louisiana’s children

capitolday_icon.png

Join the Louisiana Alliance of Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC) and Louisiana Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for a powerful day of advocacy, education, and collaboration at the Louisiana State Capitol. This year, we are uniting to show our support for Louisiana’s most vulnerable children. Programs from across the state will gather at the Rotunda, where advocates will share resources, connect with legislators, and highlight the vital work being done to protect children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month and stand in solidarity with children and families in need. The day will include a pinwheel ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion, a meaningful tribute to the resilience of the children we serve. Lunch will be provided, and we invite all supporters to join us in this important effort to create a safer future for Louisiana’s children.

LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY

Why capitol day matters

capitolday_icon.png

Capitol Day is an opportunity to make our voices heard at the Louisiana State Capitol, bringing together advocates, volunteers, staff, and supporters from across the state to champion policies that protect and uplift children. Legislators play a crucial role in shaping laws and funding decisions that impact child welfare, and hearing directly from their constituents helps them understand the importance of supporting Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC).

By attending Capitol Day, you help raise awareness, build relationships with lawmakers, and show the strength of our united advocacy efforts. Whether you're a volunteer, staff member, board member, or community supporter, your presence demonstrates that Louisiana’s children deserve a voice. Together, we can create a positive influence, secure resources, and work toward a future where every child has safety, stability, and the support they need to heal and thrive.

RESOLUTIONS

A special thank you

capitolday_icon.png

We are grateful to the Louisiana legislators who will be presenting resolutions on the House and Senate floors to honor the vital work of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC). These resolutions recognize the dedication of advocates, volunteers, and professionals working to protect and support children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Their leadership and support help elevate awareness of child welfare issues and strengthen the services that make a lasting impact on Louisiana’s children. Thank you for standing with us in our mission to ensure every child has a voice and a path to healing.

PROGRAMS

A statewide network of support for children

CASA and CAC programs work together across Louisiana to ensure children receive the advocacy and support they need. With 18 CASA programs and 14 CACs, this statewide network provides vital services to children and families in every region. While CASA and CAC programs collaborate closely throughout the state, five organizations house both a CASA program and a CAC under the same umbrella, offering a comprehensive approach to child advocacy within a single entity. The maps below highlight the reach of CASA and CAC programs across Louisiana, demonstrating our shared commitment to protecting and uplifting vulnerable children.

ABOUT US

Working together for Louisiana's children

capitolday_icon.png

Every day, children in Louisiana face the harsh realities of abuse and neglect. Louisiana CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Louisiana Alliance of Children’s Advocacy Centers (LACAC) work tirelessly to provide these children with the support, advocacy, and services they need to heal and thrive. Together, we ensure that every child's voice is heard and their needs are met, from courtrooms to counseling rooms.

The Louisiana Alliance of Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC) is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for child victims of abuse and neglect. CACs offer a comprehensive range of services designed to minimize the trauma experienced by these children. This includes conducting child-friendly forensic interviews to gather crucial information for investigations, victim support and advocacy for the child/family, providing specialized medical examinations to assess and document abuse, and offering counseling services to support the healing process. CACs works closely with law enforcement and child protective services to ensure that each child receives comprehensive care and justice. The primary goal of CACs is to support the well-being and recovery of child abuse victims, helping them to rebuild their lives.

Louisiana Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a network of dedicated volunteers appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASAs develop strong, one-on-one relationships with the children they serve, providing consistent support and advocacy throughout their time in the child welfare system. CASAs monitor cases and provide court reports to the judge, ensuring that each child’s voice is heard. They work closely with families, teachers, social workers, attorneys, and other stakeholders to gather comprehensive, up-to-date information that assists judges in making well-informed decisions. The ultimate goal of CASA is to help every child find a safe, permanent home as swiftly as possible, guided by the belief that children grow and develop best in their family of origin whenever it is safe to do so.
