Every April, communities across Louisiana come together to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, supporting families, and reminding children that they are seen, valued, and protected. This year, local CASA programs across the state showed up in incredible ways to spread awareness and advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
From planting pinwheel gardens and lighting landmarks blue, to hosting community events and securing city and parish proclamations, CASA programs made sure the message of child abuse prevention reached every corner of Louisiana. Throughout the month, staff, volunteers, community partners, local leaders, and supporters united to shine a light on the importance of safe, stable, and nurturing environments for all children.
The blue pinwheel, the national symbol for child abuse prevention, could be seen across communities statewide as programs planted gardens to represent the happy, healthy childhood every child deserves. Local events brought families and advocates together through walks, awareness campaigns, school partnerships, resource fairs, and community gatherings focused on education, prevention, and hope.
Many cities and parishes also officially recognized April as Child Abuse Prevention Month through proclamations, demonstrating a shared commitment to protecting children and strengthening families. These moments served as powerful reminders that child abuse prevention is not the work of one organization alone, it takes entire communities working together.
While Child Abuse Prevention Month may only last 30 days, the mission continues year-round. CASA volunteers across Louisiana continue to advocate for children in foster care every single day, ensuring their voices are heard and their best interests remain at the center of important decisions.
We are incredibly grateful to every CASA program, volunteer, partner, elected official, and community member who helped make this month meaningful. Together, we are building stronger communities and brighter futures for Louisiana’s children.
Take a look at some of the moments captured throughout Child Abuse Prevention Month across the state below.
