A Message from the Director: Navigating Uncertainty with Purpose and Preparedness

This spring has brought growing uncertainty for the systems that support children and families. CASA programs, like many others in the nonprofit and victim services space, are feeling the impact.
At the national level, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention recently terminated federal funding to the National CASA/GAL Association. While our programs in Louisiana are not dependent on that funding to operate, the loss is part of a broader and more concerning trend. Across the country, organizations that serve vulnerable populations are being asked to do more with fewer resources.
This is not an isolated challenge. VOCA funding continues to decline, straining the very services designed to support victims of abuse and neglect. AmeriCorps VISTA, a long-standing capacity-building partner for nonprofits, has been disrupted without clear guidance. Private philanthropy is more competitive than ever. And state budgets are stretched thin, leading to tough decisions at every level.
These realities are serious. They demand clear priorities, careful planning, and strong leadership. Fortunately, those values have always guided our work.
Over the past two years, Louisiana CASA has proactively strengthened our infrastructure. We have refined policies, reinforced support systems for local programs, and prepared for the possibility of federal disruptions. When early signs of instability appeared, we moved quickly to build safeguards and preserve the autonomy needed to keep services running without interruption.
We have also taken deliberate action to protect and strengthen our network. By focusing on long-term sustainability, we are ensuring that our statewide system remains connected, responsive, and resilient, no matter what changes come at the national or federal level. These efforts reflect not just a response to the moment, but a deep and ongoing commitment to the future of CASA in Louisiana.
None of us chose this work because it was easy. We chose it because every child deserves to be heard. Because when systems fall short, someone must step forward.
Thank you to every volunteer, program leader, staff member, and partner walking alongside us. Our strength is not defined by external challenges. It is defined by the collective determination to make a difference for children. That is what will carry us forward.
If you would like to learn more about how you can support CASA in Louisiana, we welcome you to contact us. There has never been a more important time to stand up for children.

With appreciation,
Amanda Moody
Louisiana CASA Executive Director
